Yes, it's sometimes all they and those who love them have. Because the law is impotent. When my daughter was raped (see my article on this), she did not even consider charges. Women who do speak up are humiliated if their attacker has a high status (check out the Jian Ghomeshi trial in Canada). If a woman does ANYTHING that can be considered inviting attack (going to a man's apartment, emailing him afterwards, etc.), she is denounced and her trauma is dismissed.

Revenge fantasies are a sorry substitute for justice, but they're something.
