This was my millenniel daughter's father. He completely disowned her for not wanting to work in his small business. Basically, for not being his willing slave. He had no compassion whatsoever.

She is doing what you describe, creating her own education, finding mentors. She's doing it, but it is so, so hard. Luckily she has one empathetic parent who sees her and supports her efforts.

And we are Canadian. I can't even imagine her doing this in the US without healthcare and government support like pandemic relief funds.
