This is so disheartening. Maybe a move for your family is something to consider. For what it’s worth, I just moved to Michigan recently and I can say that the town where I live is liberal, cheap, and well served with medical professionals. Your town sounds like a different, much darker world. And if you don’t want to move to a different state, maybe a college town in your state? Just a thought.
