This is profoundly disturbing to me as a former teacher. I taught high school in Canada for close to thirty years, and it was not possible to summarily fire a teacher based on a parent complaint, unless the teacher did not have a permanent contract. The union always stepped in when a teacher faced a serious complaint and was subject to discipline. The teacher could be disciplined, but not normally fired unless the complaint was criminal in nature.
How is it possible that conditions can be so much worse in the US? And yet conservatives complain that teachers’ unions have too much power? Things are really bad here.
I was considering working as a substitute here once I immigrate, but maybe I should rethink that!
