This article is so true. What you describe is happening in Canada as well, but a little more slowly. In Ontario, where I taught, a conservative government with a recently gained majority is on a track to privatize education. To them, quality education with qualified teachers is a waste of money. The people who voted them in last spring will start to see their plan in a few years. By then it might be too late to save what was once a very good public education system.
