There are so many different translations of this passage. Jewish/atheist American philosopher Horace Kallen translates it as "Yet I will maintain my integrity before him." He discusses this passage in a work entitled "Secularity is the will of God." He is not a very well known philosopher, but you might find some of his ideas interesting.
