For years I taught the novel The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho, to young students. I used it to teach the concept of allegory.

I don't think I will be able to read the scene where the character Melchizidek melts some metal in a frying pan to create gold the same way ever again.

Not really sure it's an allegory anymore.
