The Catholic church is an evil institution, no doubt. The priests who do good and abuse no one are the exception, not the rule. And they are punished for it. Think of Archbishop Romero who was assassinated in El Salvador in the 1980s for calling the corrupt Salvadoran government (backed by the US) for their atrocities against the Salvadoran people.

But the Vatican is rich and powerful. They get to be their own country for some bizarre reason. Their power will not go away soon. The abuse of power will only end when people repudiate the absurd rules of the church and choose a more humane form of spirituality.
