Landlords are just as bad in Canada, but they seem to have less power than in your district. I've had a number of screaming matches with my landlady. The last time was for her sneaking into my back yard and cutting down my carefully tended raspberry plants. As far as she was concerned they were weeds.

She would love to kick us out and double the rent, but, luckily for my husband and I, there is strong landlord-tenant legislation in my province. It wouldn't be worth it for her to try to get rid of us before we are ready to leave.

Your rental situation is terrible. Really an imbalance of power. And your landlords' sense of entitlement. Just wow.
