I love This is Us and Randall is my favourite character. I can’t believe these comments from White viewers. I guess I was naive in thinking that anyone who would watch this show would be open minded. As for the commenter who says not to look for “deep societal meanings,” that’s where you see the true underbelly of a society. If they’re saying it, then lots of other White folks are thinking it.
I have a biracial younger brother who was adopted as a baby in the late sixties. My parents thought they were helping, but they didn’t know that racist social workers had rejected another family who were his race because they thought he’d be better off in a “Christian” family. He suffered a great deal of trauma from the racism he experienced in our White neighborhood.
Randal’s trauma is very realistic.
