I just moved to a small city in the Midwest from a large city in Canada. I cannot get over the car culture here. I literally can’t go anywhere without my car. My husband and I are the only people in our neighborhood who have only one car. The guy across the street, who lives alone, has three. The nearby road is completely unsafe for walking or cycling. People in the community who can’t afford cars can be seen crossing highways in dangerous spots. There are very few buses and there’s no subway. It’s mind boggling to me.
