I have a similar reaction. I had a nutritionist design an eating plan for me and one of the recommendations was no snacking and eating only at 5-hour intervals. When I follow this plan, my weight stabilizes and I sleep better. When I sleep better, I exercise more and have steady energy. This is extremely important for people in their 60s and above.
