I had a mother who hated me as a child. She hated my younger sister even more. She was a very unconscious person. I am over 60 now, and I have managed to forgive her, as has my sister. I have also managed to heal myself from the damage, but it was not easy. I have tried to be the opposite of her with my own daughter. Thanks for articulating this issue so eloquently.
