I am so glad that you were finally able to get a diagnosis. It must have been so confusing.

Luckily, the complexity of autism is finally being addressed.

When I was a teacher, just a couple of years ago,I taught a boy who behaved strangely and turned out to be autistic. I was nonplussed that he had spent 8 years in the education system without anyone noticing his issue.

To me, it was obvious that something was wrong and I had him tested. He finally got special education support at age 15. He could have had so much intervention if anyone had noticed anything sooner.

Your son's teachers have the excuse of living in a time when not enough was known. There is no excuse today.
