I am happy. I’m happy in my own life while simultaneously knowing that the world is a horrible, cruel place. I have no illusions about human nature or political systems. I can’t change much, but I can make a difference to a few. I am somewhat privileged, so I share what I can with those who are less privileged. I teach music to children for free. I contribute to my spiritual community. I help my husband with his challenging job and I help my daughter navigate her difficult life. I take care of my aged parents-in-law. I feel connected to good people like my neighbors. I am also very lucky, so I feel gratitude every day.
I have suffered from depression. It forced me to change my life situation. I haven’t been depressed since.
