Great analysis and great advice. Our culture’s relationship with food is toxic. My own weight battles, which started in my 20s, were the result of poor eating habits learned in childhood. My mother hated cooking and being a housewife. She embraced every fake food trend of the 1960s and ‘70s. Sugary drinks were always available. Breakfast was high carb cereal covered in sugar- no protein before school. Dinner was Hamburger Helper. We lived far from our loving extended family because of my father’s career. All of my siblings have struggled with weight to some degree; it was the opposite of a Mediterranean childhood. If America changed its priorities, I bet the obesity epidemic would disappear.
