Interestingly, American intellectuals like Noam Chomsky have been making these kinds of observations for over fifty years.
But he was denounced by both academia and the media and was considered a fringe voice. I started attending his public appearances and reading his books in the 1990s and my mind was blown by what he reported America doing in the 20th century, starting with Vietnam, continuing with secret wars in the 1980s, and so on to the present sh*t show.
It's not pretty. And if America had not engaged in this pernicious nonsense, it could have easily paid for universal healthcare, basic income, and anything else you might think of as socially responsible, several times over.
It is, as you-know-who would say, sad.
